Amalie Tibbits

Program Manager- Bushfire Analysis & Research
Amalie joined Terramatrix in June 2008. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Geography from the University of Melbourne and a Certificate in Public Participation from the International Association for Public Participation.
From 2001 - 2008 Amalie worked at the Centre for Risk and Community Safety at RMIT University, on a variety of projects focussing on community participation in emergency management and the social impact of disasters. Her work was predominately with the Bushfire Co-operative Research Centre (BCRC) documenting the evidence for the ‘prepare, stay and defend or leave early policy’ and identifying obstacles to its implementation through a number of regional case studies. Amalie was also part of the BCRC Highfire project investigating aspects of community resilience to fire in the high country.
Since joining Terramatrix, Amalie has been involved in developing fire management plans for numerous bushland reserves and writing Wildfire Management Overlay reports. She undertook considerable work with fire-affected communities as a part of Terramatrix's work for the BCRC following Black Saturday and wrote the Marysville and Beechworth fires integrated studies.

Michael Hansby
Analyst
Michael joined Terramatrix in August 2011. He is a forester by profession, with a firm belief in conservation through sustainable use. He has spent the last 6 years working in operational forestry around Victoria.
Michael is also studying forest ecology at ANU. Since 2004 he has spent summers chasing bushfires and being part of prescribed burns operations for Vic Forests and DSE.
Alice Gower
Analyst
Alice joined Terramatrix as an Analyst in February 2012. She has a double Bachelor degree from the University of Melbourne in Forest Science and Environmental Science. She is currently completing a Masters in Landscape Architecture from the same university.
Between 2002 and 2007 she worked in various fire and forest management roles at the Department of Sustainability and Environment, including IMT fire roles, road management and forest planning. At Terramatrix she works on various projects. She is passionate about responsible management of treed landscapes through planning and design.

Julian Black

GIS Analyst
Julian joined Terramatrix in September 2010 as a GIS Analyst. He is currently undertaking a PhD in Land Information at RMIT University. Research Title: ‘Towards a neighbourhood scale bushfire risk assessment method to assess the benefit of implementing bushfire protection measures in the urban interface’.
Julian has a background in GIS and has previously worked for Spatial Vision, Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation and DSE in various GIS Analyst/Cartographer positions.
Bushfire analysis is fundamentally spatial and Julian works on most Terramatrix projects contributing spatial analysis and producing maps and other visualisation products for reports.

John Eastwood
Technical Officer
John joined Terramatrix in January 2012 as a Technical Officer. John comes from a maritime background, with various marine qualifications, several years sea-going on ships of all sizes and experience with the modeling of ship movements and port and harbor design using CAD and GIS.
