Bushfire Attack Level
If you are building or extending a dwelling or other accomodation in a designated Bushfire Prone Area by more than 50%, you will need a Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) assessment and report. 'Specific Use Bushfire Protected Buildings' such as healthcare, aged care and education facilities also require a BAL.
A BAL is a means of measuring the severity of a building's potential exposure to ember attack, radiant heat and direct flame contact. There are 6 levels which determine the minimum construction standards outlined in AS 3959-2018 according to bushfire attack. These levels range from BAL-LOW to BAL-FZ (Flame Zone). An increase in BAL rating will add significant costs to your build. We can assess your site and identify the applicable BAL for your development. |
