Bushfire Planning & Design

All Terramatrix BPAD analysts have successfully completed the CFA/Building Commission Victorian Development and Building in Bushfire Prone Areas short course, and most had also previously passed CFA’s Wildfire Management Overlay Site Assessment course. We bring depth of experience and excellent relationships with state and local government authorities to the preparation of your Bushfire Management Statement in response to the requirements of the Bushfire Management Overlay (BMO).

Terramatrix's Bushfire Planning and Design (BPAD) Manager Hamish Allan is one of a select few practitioners accredited to the highest Level 3 under the Fire Protection Association Australia (FPAA) Bushfire Planing and Design Accreditation Scheme in Victoria. BPAD Accredited Practitioners are recognised by industry, regulators, fire agencies, end-users and the community as providers of professional bushfire assessment, planning and design and advice services. Hamish holds the highest level of accreditation available and other staff members hold Level 2 or 1 accreditation or have successfully completed the CFA/Building Commission Victorian Development and Building in Bushfire Prone Areas short course or CFA's Wildfire Management Overlay Site Assessment course.
Our service includes:
  • A detailed site inspection and professional GIS analysis of your property to assess the viability of a range of development options in response to your property’s bushfire threat.
  • Provision of preliminary advice or a Bushfire Development Report that documents a range of different development options and assesses their likelihood in meeting the objectives of the BMO.
  • Preparation of the official Bushfire Management Statement that demonstrates how your preferred option responds to the objectives and standards of the BMO.  This is the document that will be submitted to Council with your planning permit application.
  • Consultation and communication with the CFA and your local Council as required.

Had an application refused by the CFA or Council?
We specialise in complex sites requiring in-depth analysis using site-specific fire behaviour and impact modelling, to inform an 'alternative measure' under the BMO and/or Method 2 analysis under AS 3959-2009.
Whilst a successful application cannot be guaranteed our technical capability and GIS analysis can increase the chance of your Bushfire Management Statement being accepted by the relevant authorities.
